Tracing the Layers: A Message from Taiwan brings together five contemporary artists from Taiwan—O2 LAB Art & Tech, Wen-Tao Liu, Tzu-Ying Sung, Bu Xiao, and Yan-Ru Li—in an exhibition curated by Yen-Hua Lee, on view at the Goldmark Cultural Center in Dallas.
The exhibition explores how everyday cultural elements from Taiwan can be “traced” across layers of material, memory, and meaning. Through media ranging from installation and sculpture to mixed media, collage, and visual mapping, the works investigate themes of identity, spatial memory, urban tension, and hidden histories.
Highlights include:
• O2 LAB’s light-based paper installation that evokes Taiwan’s mountainous landscapes and layered cultural heritage.
• Liu’s transformation of housing advertisements into a quiet critique of real estate inequality.
• Sung’s cultural collages using transparent tape as a metaphor for Taiwan’s complex past.
• Xiao ‘s soft, scent-infused sculptures that question the contrast between humble materials and luxury aesthetics.
• Li’s delicate architectural drawings that archive domestic space and memory.
Together, the artists offer a message from Taiwan that is nuanced, layered, and deeply resonant with questions of place, history, and contemporary life.
